Best time to go to Mallorca

Mallorca is an island for all seasons. It has a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. What the best season is depends on your preferences and the experience you are seeking.

The summer months July and August are the peak months of the tourist season with perfect weather for beach lovers but for many it is too hot. However, it can get very crowded and accommodation and car rental prices may be higher than you expected. Popular restaurants must be booked in the week before. In general, all hotels are open and we advise you to book 6 months before travel date.

If you ask us, we love Spring (April, May and June) and Autumn (September and October). We believe they are the best time to visit Mallorca for many travellers. The ideal season if you want to have an active holiday combined with some beach time. The weather is still pleasant, with warm temperatures and an excellent time for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

Mallorca experiences mild winters. While it may be too cold to enjoy sunbathing on the beach, it can still be a great time to enjoy hikes and local festivals without the tourist crowds. Even there can be a stormy day in March or November, it never lasts long in Mallorca. Rain disappears quickly and before you know it, you can sit on a terrace with warm sunrays on your face.

Life is relaxed in these months and there is more time to connect with the local Mallorquin. But do not forget December and January. December is a party month in Mallorca, many local restaurants are open for staff diners. We love Palma with Christmas lights and all Christmas markets at local squares. Do not forget to attend a church mess at the end of December with the impressive Gregorian chant of Sybil, an UNESCO masterpiece of intangible heritage which history goes back to medieval times.

January is more relaxed and many Mallorquin spend their time with friends and family. Mallorca Travels favourite traditional fiesta in winter is on the 17th of January when the local fiesta of Sant Antoni is celebrated. This fiesta gives you the opportunity to experience the rich culture of Mallorca with the blessing of animals in churches, local music, dances on market squares and delicious food like ensaimada (a type of round pastry), Sobrasada (spicy red pepper sausage) and local rice dishes with seafood. Animals are blessed in churches with San Antoni.

February and March are the excellent months for discovering Mallorca by bike. Mallorca has an extensive cycling route system. Many professional cycling teams also train in the mountains. Our favourite day in February/ March would be starting with the E-scooter tour to visit the Mallorcan countryside with the blooming fields and almond trees and having a late lunch and a wine-tasting in a vineyard.

Although less hotels and restaurants are open in winter, Mallorca Travels will find them for you and plan an unforgettable holiday. Undoubtedly, you will experience the real Mallorca more in these months.
